What Types of Sedation Dentistry Do You Offer?

Sedation dentistry employs sedation to alleviate tension and discomfort. Nitrous oxide (Laughing gas), Oral Conscious Sedation Dentistry, IV Sedation, and General Anesthesiology are the four forms of sedation dentistry available at Tulsa Time Dental Design. However, your medical history and other variables will dictate your best option.

Oral conscious sedation is a wonderful option for those who are afraid of needles. Before therapy, oral medication is used to create mild drowsiness. Oral sedatives do not induce sleep, but they do reduce the senses. This means that most patients will have no recollection of the procedure’s pain, sensations, or noises. Typically, a medication dosage is administered before the session and supplemented as needed throughout the treatment.

Nitrous oxide, sometimes known as “laughing gas,” is a moderate sedative. It is administered through a nose hood and is used during the treatment. Nitrous oxide improves mood and can produce an overall sensation of well-being. Most significantly, it minimizes discomfort and anxiety throughout the process. There may also be some tingling and numbness. Nitrous oxide has few adverse effects and has been used securely in dentistry throughout the years.
Intravenous sedation is a mild type of sedation. Patients who have received IV sedation frequently say that they slept during the whole treatment. IV sedation is often utilized for shorter sessions. Because it is delivered directly into your bloodstream, the effects are instantaneous. Once the IV sedatives are removed, patients may feel foggy and tired. This is why it is critical to coordinate with a designated driver once your appointment is complete.

General anesthesia is a mix of inhaled gases and intravenous sedatives that renders patients entirely unconscious and unresponsive to stimuli. An anesthesiologist, who is a doctor who specializes in anesthesia, is the only person who can provide general anesthesia. They are unaware of any aspect of the process and are unable to recall it. A patient cannot be readily woken while under the influence of general anesthesia until the medication wears off. While general anesthesia is still a safe procedure, it is not encouraged for people who are obese, smokers, diabetic, have medication sensitivities, have seizures, or have sleep apnea.

Our Treatment Promise

We will collaborate to preserve your confidence and well-being. We focus on emphasizing conservative treatment that optimizes results and minimizes pain.
